Maternal
& Child Health-
IHCS remains actively involved in activities related
to maternal/child health.
Tobacco
Cessation Module
Provider education is an essential
component of the Maternal Infant Health Program (MIHP), and the efficient delivery
of program education will benefit both MDCH and
MIHP providers.
At the request of MDCH, IHCS is
working with the MDCH Division of Family and Community Health, MSU
College of Nursing, and MIHealth.org to develop a web-based module to educate MIHP providers on tobacco cessation. The prenatal smoking cessation course titled "Smoke Free for Baby & Me" was completed in 2006 and is available at http://www.training.mihealth.org/. The goal of this course is to provide individuals caring for pregnant women with counseling strategies and interventions for smoking cessation.
Safe Sleep Module
A second web-based course was developed in 2007. IHCS collaborated with the MDCH Division of Family and Community Health, Tomorrow's Child/Michigan SIDS Alliance, MSU College of Nursing, and MIHealth.org to developed a safe sleep educational module. The goal of this course is to provide individuals caring for pregnant women and infants with counseling strategies and interventions to promote a consistent safe sleep environment. The course is especially targeted toward agencies and health care providers who care for Michigan's Medicaid population. The course can be accessed at http://www.training.mihealth.org/.
