Carol Parker Lee currently serves as the Executive Director of Graduate Medical Education, Inc. (GMEI) and as an Outreach Specialist for the Institute for Health Care Studies within the College of Human Medicine at Michigan State University. GMEI is an educational consortium and partnership of excellence between the Lansing hospitals (Ingham Regional Medical Center and Sparrow Health System) and Michigan State University (the Colleges of Human and Osteopathic Medicine). GMEI’s mission is to support our partner institutions in their efforts to provide excellent medical education in the mid-Michigan region through diverse, quality educational experiences in a collaborative environment.
Currently, Carol is Secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Michigan Health Council, Treasurer for the Michigan Rural Health Association, and member of the Michigan Public Health Association’s Board of Directors, the Center for Health Professions Advisory Council, and the Capital Healthcare and Employment Council. Formerly, Carol worked to increase training opportunities for health professionals in medically underserved communities, was responsible for policy and advocacy on behalf of Michigan’s Federally Qualified Health Centers, provided the initial program development for transitioning small and rural hospitals into Critical Access Hospital status, supported community mental health centers as they converted to authority status, and assisted Health Maintenance Organizations in their efforts to contract with the state of Michigan to care for Medicaid populations, develop Medicare managed care plans, and pursue national accreditation.
Carol holds a master’s degree in public health from the University of Michigan.
