HL7's Mission

HL7 is an international community of healthcare subject matter experts and information scientists collaborating to create standards for the exchange, management and integration of electronic healthcare information.

MiHIN

The Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN) is a state initiative with the goal of improving the quality, safety and efficiency of health care delivery through electronic health information exchange (HIE).  The MiHIN Resource Center provides guidance, tools, and education to the nine regional and statewide HIE initiatives in the state.   It represents HIE regional efforts at the state and national levels, promotes adoption of standards, and identifies resources to enable organizations and individuals in to achieve their goals. Instructor

The tutorial, certification training and exam will be offered by HL7 certified specialist Charles Meyer.  Chuck Meyer is a graduate of the University of Colorado with a BSBA in Computer Based Information Systems.  His 30 year career includes serving as the Director of Information Systems for the Broadmoor Hotel in Colorado Springs and the Manager of Systems Integration for IBAX which was subsequently acquired by HBO & Company. With the advent of HIPPA, Mr. Meyer moved into regulatory affairs at McKesson’s systems division.  He became an independent consultant in 2003 with a focus on HL7 training.

Mr. Meyer has been an active member of HL7 since 1989; serving in a number of leadership roles including a term as the Chair of HL7 (2006-2007).  Mr. Meyer is currently the Vice Chair of HL7 and is responsible for governance and operations, including the current Bylaws and the 2008 Governance and Operations Manual.

HL7 Version 2

The HL7 Version 2 Messaging Standard is considered to be the workhorse of data exchange in healthcare. It is the most widely implemented standard for healthcare information in the world. HL7 Version 2.5 introduces a number of new events, segments and messages, as well as a significantly expanded chapter on Control.

HL7 Membership

To become an HL7 member, please visit HL7.org. There are two types of membership, Individual or Organization. Individual membership is $600.00/year. Organization membership varies based on type of organization, annual income and/or expenditure. You will need to contact a HL7 representative if interested in organization membership.

Deadline

Please register by March 10th, as space is limited. If space for the introductory tutorial is available after March 10th, you may still be able to register, but applications for certification training will not be accepted after this date.
