Thomas McRae is a Data Project Manager for the Institute for Health Care Studies (IHCS) at Michigan State University.
Mr. McRae served as an analyst and then manager during his nearly 26 year career with the Michigan Medicaid Program. He began as an analyst reviewing a wide variety of health care entities including physicians, hospitals, laboratories, and nursing homes.
When the Michigan Medicaid Program moved from a largely Fee-For-Service payment system to one of managed care, Mr. McRae helped develop processes to manage and review encounter data submitted by the Health Plans (HMOs).
During this same time, the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) initiated a collaborative effort to create an integrated data warehouse encompassing sixteen distinct program areas. Mr. McRae was a leader in bringing this effort to fruition.
Under a Business Associate’s Agreement, the IHCS has access to MDCH program data on a project-by-project basis. Mr. McRae’s familiarity with the structure and content of this relational data base assists MSU in its research work and state of Michigan in administering the Medicaid Program.
Mr. McRae received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Michigan State University in 1972.
