American Academy of Pediatrics
See the policy statement, Active
Healthy Living: Prevention of Childhood Obesity Through Increased
Physical Activity, that recommends that physicians regularly
assess a child’s weight, diet, and level of physical activity.
Physicians should work with families to identify possible barriers
to healthy living and suggest positive changes when necessary.
Parents also should be encouraged to serve as role models of healthy
living through their diet and exercise regimens, and encourage
their children to participate in sports and other physical activities.
