Bruce Bragg serves as an Outreach Specialist in the Institute for Health Care Studies. He consults with the Michigan Department of Community Health on infrastructure development for state and local public health organizations and supports the development of the Master of Public Health Program at Michigan State University.
Mr. Bragg served for 30 years as Director, Ingham County Health Department (ICHD) in Michigan. The ICHD operates a network of community health centers with Federally Qualified Health Center status. The ICHD is responsible for traditional public health functions including preparedness, environmental health, and disease control services. It serves as the administrative agent for a network of county health plans that enroll more than 50,000 uninsured persons in a basic health benefit product.
With the financial support and guidance of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation (Community Voices project), the ICHD developed deep community roots by engaging diverse populations in learning about the causes of disease and diminished health status. This project resulted in broad participation by groups and individuals in community organizations and activities.
Mr. Bragg was a long time member of the National Association for County and City Health Officials (NACCHO), serving on many advisory committees and representing NACCHO on the Secretary’s Advisory Committee on Infant Mortality. He served for ten years as a member of the Ingham Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees. He currently serves as a member of the Ingham County Human Services Board, the Ingham Health Plan Corporation Board of Directors, and the Michigan Local Public Health Accreditation Commission.
Mr. Bragg holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Oregon and an M.P.H. in Public Health Administration from the University of Michigan.
